Sonam started this Foundation in the mid 1990s to remember Pasung Lamu and help other Nepali women discover climbing, mountaineering and the spirit of adventure that Pasung Lamu held so dear. Initially the Foundation focused on raising awareness, motivating and encouraging local women to get involved. It provided opportunities to try out climbing and mountaineering and training and scholarships for women who wished to improve and / or make a career in this field. The Foundation has its own climbing wall on the edge of Kathmandu. The wall is open to the public generating income through entry charges (with a nominal charge for local women) and is the location of the annual National Climbing Competition.
We continue to provide scholarships and training however more recently the Foundation has made some capital investments: we acquired the Pasung Lamu Community College in Kathmandu supporting the education and development of over 1000 students.
We encourage anyone who has enjoyed spending time in our beautiful country and walking alongside local peoples to support and sustain our communities by giving generously to the Foundation. You can donate directly whilst in Nepal or through our www.pasanglhamu.org.
